Probably one of the most common things I hear is “I need a job”. I think this is why more don’t avail themselves of the many opportunities there are working for themselves. Although a lot of jobs are not easy, many don’t involve the combination of imagination, planning, desire, motivation, and hard work that self employment does. When the viability of our occupation hangs solely on us, it is a different ball game.
But for those who are willing to engage, opportunity is everywhere. Here are a some self employment ideas that I have seen the viability in.

Whether you have skill or don’t get around the internet quite as well, there is certainly opportunity in making money online in a self taught, learn-as-you-go format. There are ways to make money online with affiliate marketing, freelancing, and getting involved with sites like eBay, Google, and Fiverr, among others.

If you are an expert, then contracting website design with businesses is a great option for making money. It doesn’t take a degree, just the knowhow and a collection of websites you have built for the business owner’s consideration. This field is exploding as more and more businesses go online.
- Freelance Writer
A freelance writer can engage jobs both online and offline. This writing can be in many different specialty areas. Sometimes it can help to have a degree in English or journalism but most of the time all that is needed is writing skills. Skills with marketing and people can also help. Most of the time freelance writers are contracted.
- Freelance Photographer
Freelance photographers can make money taking pictures for insurance and mortgage companies who can go through thousands of clients needing houses or land photographed. Much of this is done online. Because of the increase of businesses going online, there is also a greater demand for photos on the internet. If you have expertise in any field, you can start a consulting business. The sky is the limit as far as the variety of services that can be offered, including counseling, health consulting, technical, and administration skills. You can also enjoy the leisure of scheduling your own hours.

Preparing meals from your home can be one of the most lucrative businesses you will find. So if you love to cook, the sky is the limit with this one, from prepare meals for busy families to catering for special events, weddings, festivals, etc. You can also focus on different specialties, such as organic or different types of cuisine.

This can be an ideal, viable business, especially for a couple. There is a low initial investment and the income is fare. This can include not only private residences but new construction, commercial, and government structures. It is not an easy job but as your reputation builds, you can enjoy success.
