Facial Sauna

Facial SaunaMaking your own homemade facial sauna at home is important on two fronts.  First, is the dynamic benefit to the skin, especially the facial skin.  The second is respiratory relief.

The Power of Steam

Taking a steam at your local fitness club is an excellent way of relaxing and detoxing.  It is especially helpful for the lungs and sinuses.  But you don’t need to go anywhere to enjoy the same benefits.  You can steam your face and your air passages right at home. Here is how:

Things you need:

  • Bathroom sink or bowl
  • Head band
  • Towel
  • Essential oils or herbs

A Steam For The Lungs: A Breathing Miracle

Steam inhalation therapy can relieve congestion in the lungs, sinus conditions, and the common cold.  It opens up the sinuses and lung passages so that you can discharge mucus, breathe easier, and heal faster.   It can be a powerful lung detox. With a bowl, some hot water, and a towel, you can create your own miracle right in your bathroom or kitchen.

What To Do

  • Step 1:  Add several teaspoons of peppermint or eucalyptus herb to a quart of water.  Bring to a boil and then simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Step 2:  Pour the steaming liquid into the bathroom sink or a glass bowl.  If you are using essential oils instead of herbs, add several drops now (peppermint, eucalyptus, or Young Living’s RC blend).   Allow the water to cool slightly.
  • Step 3:  Put the headband on to get hair out of your face.  Hold your head about 12 inches above the water and place a towel over your head.  As you do this, keep your eyes closed and breathe in the steam slowly and deeply. Don’t get too close to the water as it may burn you.  If the heat is too much, raise the towel to vent some of the steam, take a quick breath away from the steam and then resume.  Five to ten minutes of steam should be enough to clear congestion (longer than 15 minutes will not increase effectiveness).

Herbs: Mullein, lungwort, comfrey, eucalyptus, fennel, and thyme are some excellent lung specific herbs to add to the water.  Frankincense is another very effective lung healer.  They will help the mucus to come out of airways and soothe mucus membranes.

Essential oils: Eucalyptus, peppermint and rosemary are excellent herbs for lung/cold/sinus problems.

The Matchstick Remedy: Another Powerful Water Remedy For The Lungs

The matchstick remedy is a way for the body to get sulfur, which improves respiratory infections and symptoms of nausea. Drop two lit matches into a glass of water, so the flame is extinguished right as they hit the water. Pour the water and the matchsticks into a container and seal. Shake the container well for 30 seconds. Drink a tablespoon of the liquid, and repeat three times a day until your cough and fluid.

Facial SaunaA Steam For The Skin

Facial steaming is one of the best and most efficient ways to deep cleanse the skin.  It unclogs and detoxes facial pores, removes dead skin cells, and stimulates blood circulation which is essential for the reproduction of new and healthy cells.  Facial steaming is by far one of the most overlooked ways to get rid of acne. In fact, it is so powerful that acne sufferers only need to do it a few times per month in order to fully benefit from its results.

What To Do

  • Step 1:  Bring to a boil and then simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Step 2:  Pour the steaming liquid into the bathroom sink or a glass bowl.  If you are using essential oils, add several drops now (chamomile, lavender, tea tree, or Young Living’s Gentle Baby blend or Melrose blend).   It can also help to add salt to the water to help disinfect your skin.  Allow the water to cool slightly.
  • Step 3:  Put the headband on to get hair out of your face.  Hold your head about 12 inches above the water and place a towel over your head.  Keep your eyes closed and stay over the steam for 5 to 10 minutes.  Don’t get too close to the water as it may burn you.  If the heat is too much, raise the towel to vent some of the steam, take a quick breath away from the steam and then resume.
  • Step 4:  Rinse your face with warm water, then, gently splash cool water on your face.  Pat the skin dry with a soft towel.

The Simple Truth Is Close

Again we find that the power of health is very near us, in the simple things we can do each day.  Water and steam are some of the most powerful healers for humans on earth.  And they are so easy to do.  Don’t pass them by for something more complicated.
